Movies for startups
Posted: May 8th, 2008 | Author: Rohit | Filed under: At Work, Movies |So I watched Shawshank Redemption again last night. The guy spent twenty years working on that tunnel! And one day he escaped and redeemed himself. What can (or cannot) a startup accomplish in twenty years if it sticks to its vision?
Rocky is another favorite. When Stallone talks about his desire to “Go the distance” and prove that he was not “just another bum” on the street, isn’t he speaking for every bootstrapping startup guy who has his heart set on something wonderful.
I Love Movies! For the way they can inspire you and even help you see a bad sales call in the right perspective.

My favorite is the LOTR trilogy
20 years was it? Hmm… didnt quite notice that.
These are my favorite too…. SR teaches you a lot about life…I love it…
Talking about “going the distance”, and given my current interest in endurance sports, I must highly recommend the movie “Running on the Sun”. It is about the Badwater ultramarathon.
Think about running 135miles in the middle of the summer, in a barren desert with temperatures touching 55C+. And all this in hope to finish the race in under 48 hours so you can get a belt buckle! Like they say, you run the first 50-60 miles with your legs; the next 50-60 miles with your head; and the last 10-15 miles you run with your heart! Very inspiring stuff!
I just remembered two more very inspiring video clips. These are from the Hawaii Ironman triathlon (2.4mi ocean swim, 112mi bike ride, and 26.2mi run).

I can just keep posting more sports related inspiring videos, but have to get back to work now - sigh…
yep Shawshank is a favourite of mine too.. its amazing how much a well crafted movie can tell in 2 hours.. something you can ponder over, take solace from, or get inspired by.. for a lifetime afterwards.
